In one case, the idea of 23,015 cubic yards of sludge had to be conveyed to a jury. To illustrate the concept, the amount of sludge was compared to a football field and player.
Everyone in America knows the size of a football field and a person. Also, this was happening close to the time of the Super Bowl, so football was a hot topic. Showing the length and depth of the enormous amount of sludge became meaningful to the audience.
